Rebuild Bolivar Peninsula
This site was started as a way to help those with ties to Bolivar Peninsula to come together to focus on rebuilding after the destruction of hurricane Ike.
The ultimate goal is to provide information and resources for rebuilding homes, businesses, lives, tourism, and the local economy.
Some of the resources that we hope to include on this site are...
Contact information for local, state, and U.S. government officials so that concerned
citizens can urge them to support the Rebuild Bolivar initiative
The ability to accept donations to help fund the Rebuild Bolivar initiative
A collection of construction resources (contractors, building supplies, etc.)
Useful tools for working through the rebuilding process
And much more - we're just getting started so check back often!

Hurricane Classifieds
Ok... So here's what we are thinking. After thousands of emails and phone calls we have decided to add a Hurricane section to our classifieds. This will allow people to communicate through the website.
After hearing from you and going to the beach countless times we think that there will be a need for this section. It consists of for sale, found, info/links, jobs, lost, missing persons and volunteers.
Please forward this to everyone so we can get the ball rolling. If you found something that isn't yours please post it on here, I am sure it will mean alot to the person that it does belong to. If you have some extra time and you would like to volunteer, please post your ad under that section. We are putting together a group that will go to the beach just to help out any where that they are needed. If you have info or a link that people should see... post away. Click the links below for more information.
We want to thank everyone for the emails and suggestions. Please keep them coming!

Informational Video
Here is somewhat of an informational video that we put together late last night. We have been getting inundated with thousands of emails and hundreds of phone calls. We can not possibly correspond with everyone so we will attempt to keep in contact with everyone through videos.
I am sorry for the quality... We put this together last minute after an exhausting day. They will get better I promise. ; )
We are going back in to get more photos and video. Please be patient, we will do our best to get the info you need.
Thanks again for all the kind emails and phone calls. I am sorry we couldn't do a better job for each individual person. Jeff

New Helpful Website
We found another great informational website! Click Here
http://galvestonisland.tv/
GalvestonIsland.TV
Documenting the Island’s Recovery from Hurricane Ike
Our family moved to the west end of Galveston in 1998. Several years later we had to return to South Dakota for family reasons, but we’ve never really “left” our adopted home town. We still have property in Jamaica Beach and we return whenever we can. Our hearts go out to all those affected by Hurricane Ike.
I bought the domain for this website with another other purpose in mind, but that can wait until another year. In the meantime let’s use it to document the Island’s return to glory.
If you have a video that should be included here, please let me know via http://galvestonisland.tv/kevin@meylor.com.
Best of luck to everyone on the Gulf Coast!
Regards,
Kevin

NEW PHOTOS _ Crystal Beach Photos - #2
Ok, so we made it again this morning Sat. 09/20/08. I tried to get more photos of cabins that people have been requesting. If you don't see your cabin then it could be gone or the road is impassable. We went to every subdivision on the beach side. I might have missed one by the school but I will get that one when I return. The state is now clearing the highway of all the sand and debris. They are starting work on the Peninsula from the Galveston end toward High Island. They have everything cleared almost to Roll over Pass.
They will then begin to make temporary repairs to the bridge at Rollover Pass. We were told that with in the next ten days they will start letting residents in to look at their property. The State troopers have set up camp at the Bolivar school, the army is at Crystal Palace Hotel and the Galveston County Sheriff is now patrolling. They are also flying Army helicopters at low altitude looking for looters. Your property is much safer now that they are all over the Peninsula.
There are 4 sets of pictures. They will be uploaded today. Let me know if you need other photos I will do my best to get them.

Crystal Beach - Thurs. - 09/18/08
We went to Crystal Beach this morning to better document the status of the Bolivar Peninsula. As you will see there is a lot of damage and some of these photos are hard to take. I hope that this can help some of you with questions and if nothing else give some "Closure". If you recognize any of these photos please email me at jeff@madnonnie.com so we can label the photos.
There are 3 sets of pictures we will be loading. There will be a complete video of Crystal Beach to follow this evening.

Sherry Kilgore - 868 S. Jacks Road
Jeff, this is the coast line near S. Jacks Road that is located near the "Outrigger Grill" it is on the USGS site. My house was located on 868 S. Jacks Road. On the Gulf I was 5 houses back. If I am looking at this correctly my property is nearly front row. Flipping between Google Earth and this site has helped me figure out my place is gone. Thanks for taking the time to photograph and to keep us informed.
Sincerely, Sherry Kilgore
